Dress up Drab Containers with Washi Tape
When you start an organizing project, there’s usually a pretty strong urge to run out and buy the prettiest containers you can find. It’s a useful urge, because you’re more likely to keep up with a system if you like the way it looks, but before you spend a bunch of money, try tweaking stuff you already have. I’ve been preaching the gospel of washi tape for a while, but if you’re not familiar, it’s a now widely available decorative tape that has a million great uses. It doesn’t leave a sticky residue, so it’s great for experimenting with adding pops of color to existing containers. This was a tub of Body Shop Body Butter that I washed and washied. Now, it’s a fun container that  functions as an organizer while still being pretty enough to stay visible. The best part? It took less than 10 minutes to make!
Hi there, I’ve failed miserably with Washi tape as the item I’m decorating usually shows through - with your brown container you can’t see it showing through the blue tape so I’m wondering - either I’m buying cheap tape or do you wrap more than one layer of tape?
I’ve definitely had that issue before! The tape I used is a pretty thick, opaque one (I’m reasonably sure I got it at Paper Source). Most tapes that look like they have white or light parts of the pattern are going to show through, so try looking for darker colors or tape that has a sturdier, less paper-like feel. Hope that helps!
